Grounds for election
Melissa is a world leading figure in the field of digital humanities, leading the University of Edinburgh's Centre for Digital Scholarship; she has worked internationally with library and museum collections to critically examine digital technology and cultural heritage. In 2022, she joined the UK Government's Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport's College of Experts, and she has been on the Board of Curators of the University of Oxford Libraries, the Board of Trustees of the National Library of Scotland and numerous committees for museums and archives. Her career has seen her produce academic work covering art history, computer science and archaeology - her PhD thesis produced a virtual reality interpretation of the tomb of Sennedjem, she has used Artificial Intelligence and image processing technologies to interrogate the information held on the Vindolanda tablets whilst at Oxford. She has co-supervised PhDs at UCL's Institute of Archaeology with the late Tim Schadla-Hall.
