Grounds for election

Geordie Greig has created a library in the last 40 years, specialising in Anthony Trollope and the Trollope family, and he has made loans to the British Library. He is the author of 'The Kingmaker', a history of the friendship between his grandfather and George VI and 'Breakfast with Lucian', a memoir about the artist Lucian Freud. He is also Chair of the charity 'Friends of the National Libraries', and led the campaign in 2021 to raise £15m to acquire the Honresfield library of literary manuscripts and letters by the Bronte siblings, Jane Austen, Sir Walter Scott and Robert Burns, and about 1,500 printed books. The superb contents of the Honresfield library were distributed to just under 70 libraries throughout the UK, in all four home nations. Currently Editor-in-Chief of The Independent, Geordie has previously been Editor of the Daily Mail, The Mail on Sunday, The London Evening Standard, and Tatler, as well as 12 years on The Sunday Times, five as New York correspondent.
