Carmen Ting is an archaeological material scientist from Hong Kong, where she first developed an interest in cultural encounters and human connectivities. These themes connect her research, which stretches from understanding the ‘Classic Maya Collapse’ from the lens of the everyday people to the agency of indigenous populations in the Caribbean after European colonisation. Her latest work investigates the emergence of medieval glazed tableware as a global commodity through which an exploration of the origins of globalisation, made possible through grants from the Marie Curie Skłodowska Actions and Council for British Research in the Levant. Her other passion to promote diversity and inclusivity in archaeology, and more generally, academia; she helped launch the Student and ECR Research Support Award of the International Society for Archaeological Science, where she serves in the Executive Board.
