Luke Syson is a distinguished art historian and museum director, appointed the 14th Director of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge in 2019; in 2012-1019, he was chairman of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and led the refurbishment of the British Galleries (opened 2020); previously he was at the British Museum, as a curator in coins and medals and he co-created there the display 'Enlightenment: Discovering the World in the Eighteenth Century,' which opened in 2003. At the V&A in 2002-2003, he moved to be head of research & curator of Italian paintings before 1500, at the National Gallery; in 2011 he curated 'Leonardo da Vinci: Painter at the Court of Milan'; he led successful campaign to acquire Raphael's 'Madonna of the Pinks' for the nation. He has also contributed to numerous publications including 'Pisanello: Painter to the Renaissance Court', 2001, co-written with Dillian Gordon, and 'Like Life: Sculpture, Color and the Body', 2018.
