Grounds for election

Mark Crosby is an Associate Professor in the Department of English and Director of the Digital Humanities Center at Kansas State University. He researches British literary and visual culture, and has published widely on William Blake and his patrons. His research includes the first director of the Society of Antiquaries, Richard Gough, whose project to record funerary monuments in Britain, from the eleventh to fifteenth centuries, was illustrated by James Basire. As Basire’s apprentice, Blake made preparatory drawings of the royal tombs in Westminster Abbey. These drawings are in the Bodleian Library and the Society of Antiquaries, along with copperplates and proof impressions with Gough’s annotations. Crosby is preparing a catalogue of Blake’s drawings for Gough’s Sepulchral Monuments, a work that will contribute importantly to studies in antiquarianism.
