She is a specialist in art and archaeology, and since the early 1990s has undertaken research on museum collections and fieldwork in Russia, in particular the Zalavruga prehistoric rock art complex in Russian Karelia. In 2018, this led to a major exhibition at the Bangudae Museum, South Korea, which has depictions of whaling common with Zalavruga.
