Grounds for election
Since 2021 Philip has been Academic Director of the Royal Historical Society (RHS). He is responsible for the Society’s policy programme, advocacy and campaign work, publishing (including the Camden Series), communications and events. He also has responsibility for the Society’s archive and the RHS Library. In 2021-22, he oversaw a re-cataloguing of the RHS archive, which is now being used by those working on the 19th and 20th-century historical profession. Between 2016-21, he was Director of Digital and Publishing, and Senior Lecturer, at the Institute of Historical Research. Prior to 2016 he was Senior Editor at ODNB, responsible for 18th century and early modern content, as well as architecture and the built environment. He remains an Associate Editor of the ODNB in a voluntary capacity.
His current research looks at the history of the RHS and IHR via a study of its membership. Previous publications include a monograph (2001), book chapters and articles, and 250 entries for the ODNB
