Grounds for election

As a landscape archaeologist, Aldred has worked widely across the heritage sector, both as a practitioner and as an academic, in the UK and Iceland. Amongst his projects are the national methodology for Historic Landscape Characterisation. He led and represented Iceland in three international projects, and was Historic Environment Scotland’s Aerial and Remote Sensing mapping manager. Now at the Cambridge Archaeological Unit, he is a member of both the McDonald Institute and the University’s Centre of Landscape Regeneration. Concerned with the practice of developer-led archaeology in a research context, he has led multiple excavations, most recently at Northstowe, and is now leading its post-excavation programme. Also, a Co-I on a NERC-funded project exploring the Fens’ historic drainage landscapes for their regeneration, Oscar has published over 50 articles and chapters, including his book, The Archaeology of Movement (2021).
