David Govantes-Edwards is a leader in the field of both Islamic archaeology and ancient glass studies. He has published extensively on glass production in medieval Spain, including a prize-winning article in the Journal of Medieval Studies. His landmark edited volume, 'Archaeology, Politics and Islamicate Cultural Heritage in Europe' was published in 2022, in the same year as his co-edited volume 'The Royal Workshops of the Alhambra'. His fieldwork and research skills have been widely sought by projects including the Rapa Nui 'Landscapes of Construction' project (UCL), the Patronato de la Alhambra, Granada, and the Russian Academy of Sciences (in 2018). Govantes-Edwards is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Cordoba and the Instituto de Estudios Medievais, Universidad de Nova, Lisboa.
