Grounds for election
Prof. Knight is a highly distinguished scholar of renaissance literature with a long-standing interest in early modern antiquarianism at Leicester (since 2005). She is an Associate General Editor of John Nichols's The Progresses and Public Processions of Queen Elizabeth: A New Edition of the Early Modern Sources (OUP, 2014, 5 vols.). She has worked for many years on 16th and 17th century education and literature, including the history of teaching, reading and writing in Latin from the classical period until the later 17th century, and the cultural and social lives of institutions of learning. Her work investigates how early modern students and graduates wrote about both the classical past and more recent historical contexts they had studied: see her co-edited volumes The Intellectual and Cultural World of the Early Modern Inns of Court (2011); The Oxford Handbook of Neo-Latin (2015); and The European Context of Ramism (2019). In 2022 she was appointed to the Warburg's Advisory Council.
