Grounds for election

Jan Haywood is Lecturer in Ancient History at the University of Leicester, and has held visiting positions in Washington, Geneva and Trento. In 2020, he co-founded with Prof. Thomas Harrison the Herodotus Helpline, a free, online seminar series which has reached thousands of participants worldwide. He is Reviews Editor of Journal of Hellenic Studies and an editor of the journal Syllogos. With Naoíse Mac Sweeney he co-authored a book on cross-cultural receptions of the Trojan War (‘Homer’s Iliad and the Trojan War: Dialogues on Tradition’, Bloomsbury 2018), and with Zosia Archibald he co-edited a volume in honour of John K. Davies (‘The Power of Individual and Community in Ancient Athens and Beyond’, Classical Press of Wales 2019). He works across widely across ancient culture, with articles and chapters on Greek historiography and religion, on Aeschylus, and on Alice Oswald’s ‘Memorial’, and is preparing a book on Herodotus’s sources as well as other studies on Herodotus and Xenophon.
