Tom Holland is an award-winning writer, historian, broadcaster and heritage advocate whose campaigning work related to the Stonehenge tunnel scheme as President of the Stonehenge Alliance has brought an enormous amount of public attention to an issue of profound significance to the Society. With Dominic Sandbrook, he is presenter of The Rest is History, the UK’s most popular history podcast, and has also presented historical documentaries for BBC radio and television. He is the best-selling and prize-winning author of numerous books on historical subjects relevant to the Society’s spheres of interest; subjects include the Roman Republic and Empire, Early Medieval Europe, the rise of Islam, the legacy of Christian thought and philosophy and an award-winning translation of Herodotus (a new translation of Suetonius is also forthcoming). As one of the UK’s best-known and most influential public voices in the historical arena, his inclusion in the Fellowship could not be more deserved.
