Grounds for election

Professor Haki Antonsson is a distinguished scholar in the historical study of the Viking Age and Christian medieval Scandinavian North, from the Kievan Rus' across mainland Scandinavia, Britain and Ireland to Iceland. His particular field of specialization is the Church and politics, and he has published monographs and articles on concepts of salvation and sainthood. These include studies of St Magnús of Orkney and the response to the martyrdom of Thomas Becket in Scandinavia. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and has served as Honorary Secretary of the Viking Society for Northern Research since 2016.
