Grounds for election
A specialist in the history, numismatics and epigraphy of the Hellenistic world, since 2014 Andrew Meadows is a Fellow of New College, Oxford and Professor of Ancient History in the Faculty of Classics. He is Director of the Faculty’s Centre for the Study of Ancient Documents as well as Honorary Curator at the Ashmolean Museum.
From 1995-2007 he was Curator of Greek Coins at the British Museum, and from 2004-6 served as the Museum’s Research Manager. In 2007 he became the Margaret Thompson Curator of Greek Coins at the American Numismatic Society (ANS), New York, and from 2008-2014 was Deputy Director of the Society.
He co-founded the nomisma.org project, which has pioneered the introduction of Linked Open Data approaches to ancient numismatics, and is series editor of the ANS-CUP series, Guides to the Coinage of the Ancient World and the OUP series Oxford Studies in Ancient Documents.
