Canon Maltby is Fellow Emerita of Corpus Christi College, Oxford and Reader Emerita in Church History, University of Oxford, as well as Canon Emerita of Christ Church Oxford, and Canon Theologian Emerita of Leicester and Winchester Cathedrals. She is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. Her Cambridge Ph.D. (published as 'Prayer Book and people in Elizabethan and early Stuart England', 1998) began a career investigating the Long Reformation in England, particularly in relation to public worship governed by the Book of Common Prayer, and the way in which early modern parishioners related to their church buildings as sacred spaces: most recently ‘Sacrilege and the sacred in England’s Second Reformation, 1640-60’, in E. Gebarowski-Shafer et al. (eds), 'Contesting Orthodoxies in the History of Christianity' (2021). She is a member of the Cathedral Fabrics Commission for England, the body with planning oversight of all Anglican cathedrals in terms of their fabric.
