Grounds for election

Michael Stansfield has combined a distinguished career as an archivist with writing on aspects of late medieval English history and especially archival history. At Canterbury (1989-2000) he rose to become Cathedral Archivist and Assistant County Archivist, and then, after two years as archivist of Corpus Christi and Merton colleges, Oxford, he was Assistant Keeper and subsequently Deputy Head and Senior Manager of Durham University Library's Archives & Special Collections (2002-2022). Since last year he has been Archivist of New College, Oxford. Since completing his Oxford DPhil thesis on the Holland family, earls of Kent and Huntingdon, 1352-1475, he has published widely on historical and archival topics, especially on the archives of Canterbury and Durham cathedrals (such as in the history of Durham Cathedral, ed. David Brown, which was published for the Dean and Chapter in 2014) .
