Grounds for election

Retirement from Whitehall gave Chris Sullivan scope to write and lecture on his own active researches to history and archaeology Societies. Subjects include Dean Forest Eyres, castles and mining rights. He holds successive officer roles in the Forest of Dean Local History Society, nearly Gloucestershire’s largest. His calendar of Lydney Park papers is in the Archives. He has researched and written a new History part of the Estate’s website. Relocating the notes of the original Roman temple excavator, he published locally and in BGAS Transactions, including original artwork. Chris believes that the Lydney site seriously needs reinterpretation in the light of the original records and post-Wheeler discoveries elsewhere. Lydney assets can also inform research on other sites. Chris provides his photographs and other guidance when handling academic, media and public requests into Lydney Park. His aim is to get academic teams into the assets, and has gained offers, access issues permitting.
