Active in conservation and in popular education on buildings and heritage since 1991, author of 5 books, eg. Building Norfolk (2008) winner East Anglian Book of the Year, and The Lost City of Stoke-on-Trent (2011). Emma Bridgewater Ltd has been committed since 1985 to pottery production in Stoke-on-Trent and the rehabilitation of 19th c industrial buildings there. Its 3 acre factory site, The Eastwood Works, a late Victorian complex, has been conserved and receives 1000s of visitors each year, introducing them to the use of a historic building for its original purpose and to a continuing tradition of artisan production. His recent purchase of Ham Court, Bampton, has led to an programme of restoration to the house, which preserves substantial remnants of Aymer de Valence’s great castle, showcasing the historic building and its layout, redefining the lines, moats, enclosure after long neglect and damage, and allowing the 14th c gatehouse to re-emerge.
