Grounds for election
Kenneth Lymer is a rock art researcher specialising in the study of the rock art and prehistoric art of Central Asia. His doctoral thesis (2003) examined rock art and material culture in Kazakhstan and the Altai associated with the Scytho-Siberian ‘animal style’. He has conducted rock art fieldwork in Kazakhstan (1997–2000), participated in the joint Polish-Uzbek study of the Sarmishsai petroglyph complex in Uzbekistan (1997), and in the Mongol-American expedition (sponsored by Mongolian State Museum and the Smithsonian, Washington, D.C.) to the Altai mountain region of western Mongolia (2011) to document rock art and carved menhirs. He has published numerous articles, the most cited of which is “Rags and Rock Art: The landscapes of holy site pilgrimage in the Republic of Kazakhstan”, published in World Archaeology (2004). He has also presented on his research at many conferences including the Journey Through Kazakhstan symposium at the British Museum (2008).
