Grounds for election

Stephen White is a Senior Archaeologist at Archaeology South-East (UCL Institute of Archaeology). He has worked in archaeology for 17 years, predominantly in London. Over the course of his career, he has led teams that have excavated Roman London City sites, Henry VIII’s Royal Dockyard in Deptford, as well as various multi-phase sites across the south-east of England. His most well-known work is the discovery of the Red Lion Playhouse by his team at a site in Whitechapel (itself a multi-phase site that included a Middle Iron Age enclosed settlement and a medieval Manor). The Red Lion was one of, if not the, first playhouses of the Elizabethan period and its discovery was a story of international interest. To date that site has generated three articles, with a monograph currently in draft. He has also taught undergraduates at UCL about archaeology and the post-excavation process, as well as instructing at their field schools and various volunteer projects.
