Grounds for election

Hugh’s interest in Roman archaeology and numismatics started early, and while studying Physics, he co-founded the University Numismatic Society in 1972. Despite going into teaching, he never lost that passion. He has regularly published in the Numismatic Chronicle, British Numismatic Journal, Numismatic Bulletin, and Britannia. His MPhil in the 1990s led to his book 'Carausius, a consideration of the historical, archaeological and numismatic aspects of his reign' (2004, BAR 378). His current interests have expanded into Arab-Byzantine history and numismatics. His public engagement has included many talks to Historical, Numismatic, and Archaeological Societies, and academic talks to the British Numismatic Society and the Conference of British Association of Numismatic Societies. He is an active member of the Seventh Century Syrian Numismatic Round Table, and has developed close ties with colleagues at the BM and Ashmolean Museum, and served on the Royal Numismatic Society Council.
