Magnus Williamson is Professor of Early Music at Newcastle University. He specialises in the social and institutional history, sources, liturgical and architectural contexts, material culture and performance practice of pre-Reformation music. His many publications include a 300-page edition of music by John Sheppard (2012) and a facsimile of the Eton Choirbook (winner of the American Musicological Society's 2011 Palisca Prize). He has been General Editor (2008-21) and Chairman (2021-) of the British Academy series, Early English Church Music. His research increasingly draws upon source materials and disciplinary approaches germane to the Society: a current project on Lincoln Cathedral, for instance, draws upon the Willson Collection. He would like to develop his links with the Society in furtherance of current projects: Aural Histories (AHRC, 2022-), Bee-ing Human (Leverhulme Trust, 2022-) and Henry VIII on Tour (AHRC, 2022-).
