Grounds for election

Mr Newman is an experienced historian and maritime archaeologist who has worked in a number of roles across the commercial and public sectors, on both terrestrial and maritime sites. In 2010, he successfully completed thirty years service within the Metropolitan Police, where he specialised in the investigation serious and organised crime. Following his retirement from the police service Mr Newman graduated in Maritime Archaeology from the University of Southampton and secured a positon as maritime archaeologist with English Heritage. In this role he was able blend his skills detective and diver to develop new and innovative approaches to promote public access to England’s protected wreck sites and management of the cadre of affiliated wreck volunteers; and set clear standards and approaches necessary to prevent and investigate crime in the maritime environment. In 2020, Mr Newman was appointed as a Maritime Archaeologist within the National Listing & Marine Team at Historic England.
