Grounds for election

The candidate works mainly in the field of historic gardens and landscape archaeology and has been lead archaeologist for the National Trust on the restoration of the gardens at Stowe House, Buckingham since 2019. From 2011 he has also managed a community-based programme of research into the seventeenth-century gardens at Hanwell Castle, Oxfordshire and has published (2022) a volume on the history and archaeology of the site. He has extensive experience of working in education, for example running school workshops on archaeology for teachers in the UK, India and Japan, working with community groups and publishing (1992) a practical guide to archaeology for those new to the subject. He served for 10 years on the Council for British Archaeology’s Education Committee and has managed Heritage Lottery Funded projects relating to churchyard excavations in Oxfordshire and Warwickshire. He publishes frequently on garden history and is on the editorial board of the journal of the same name.
