Grounds for election

Matthew specialised in aerial archaeology during his MPhil research which explored bias and selectivity in patterns of aerial reconnaissance. He has subsequently worked as a professional aerial archaeology specialist for 22 years, working on and managing a broad variety of aerial archaeology projects across England. Following completion of his MPhil, he worked as an air photo interpreter in the commercial/Local Government sector before joining English Heritage as an Investigator in 2006. Matthew took up the role of Senior Investigator in 2013 before going on to manage Historic England’s northern Aerial Investigation & Mapping team. Since 2022 he has been Aerial Survey Principal, the national head of Historic England’s Aerial Survey team. Matthew has extensive experience of teaching aerial survey at community, post-graduate and professional level in the UK and Europe. He has also authored or co-authored numerous reports and publications including upcoming European lidar guidance.
