Rebecca began her career as a buildings archaeologist focusing on building recording, including large sites such as Pontefract Castle and Selby Abbey. She then worked as a Historic Buildings Consultant, undertaking planning-related projects and recording work on sites such as the Joiners’ Yard, Harewood House. Since 2010 Rebecca has worked for English Heritage/Historic England, initially as an Architectural Investigator and from 2016 as Senior Architectural Investigator. She is an expert on vernacular buildings and has undertaken studies including a report on the surviving early buildings of Ely, Cambridgeshire, published in Vernacular Architecture. Rebecca has contributed to several multidisciplinary studies of castles and their landscapes, including Snodhill and Clifford Castles, Herefordshire, and the Pleasance at Kenilworth. She became President of the Vernacular Architecture Group in 2023.
