Grounds for election

Axel Müller has made very significant contribution to medieval studies. For over 25 years he has been Director of the annual International Medieval Congress (IMC), hosted by the University of Leeds, with CEO’s responsibility for both the academic and organisational aspects. The IMC is probably the largest academic conference in the humanities in the U.K., with more than 2000 scholars from (in 2023) over 60 countries. Axel’s academic interests include the origins of military firepower and he has recently published 'Gunpowder Technology in the Fifteenth Century' (Boydell, 2024). He contributes to the University of Leeds School of History by lecturing and co-supervising PhDs. He serves on the editorial boards of several journals and since 1996 he has chaired the editorial board of the International Medieval Research series (Brepols). He is a trustee of the Yorkshire Archaeological and Historical Society and Chair of the Society’s Medieval Section.
