Grounds for election

Janet is a qualified archivist with 30 years’ experience of working in heritage services. From 2014-24 she was Head of Archives, Learning and Development with the South West Heritage Trust, managing the county archives of Devon and Somerset. She played a key role in developing the £9m Somerset Heritage Centre in 2010 and creating the Trust in 2014. Her projects there included conserving the papers of the C19 Prime Minister, Viscount Sidmouth, and saving the North Devon Record Office from closure. Janet's research interests lie with British modern social history and digital management of archive assets. She recently led a Passivhaus project, supporting an environmentally responsible approach to collections care, and she has been contributing to national discussions on future access to Church of England records. She has served on the Executive of the Chief Archivists in Local Government Group. In Spring 2024 she took up a new role as Historic England’s Head of Archive and Library.
