Grounds for election

He has served as art critic for The Observer, The New York Times and Le Monde. Curator of exhibitions over many years of major figures of 20th century art, including The School of London, Francis Bacon, Giacometti, Miro and Maillol, in Rome, Vienna, Barcelona, Milan, Hamburg and Dusseldorf, most recently the 'Francis Bacon: Man and Beast' exhibition at the Royal Academy, London in 2021. He is the author of more than 20 books and exhibition catalogues of these figures and of films and published interviews of many leading figures in 20th century visual art.
