Grounds for election
Dr Christina Faraday FRHistS is an expert in the art and culture of late medieval and Tudor Britain. Her contributions to scholarship include the book Tudor Liveliness: Vivid Art in Post-Reformation England. It offers a new framework for understanding how visual and material culture was valued in Tudor England, using rhetorical techniques for ‘lively’ mental images. She has published widely on historical English image-making, especially limning and painting in the Elizabethan court and early modern print culture. She has engaged wide audiences in this approach to historical art criticism and reinterpretation of Tudor visual culture in her media appearances as a BBC New Generation Thinker, her curatorial work, and her teaching at Cambridge University and educational programmes at museums including the Wallace Collection. She is a trustee of the Walpole Society for British Art History.
