Grounds for election
Will Adam has combined academic interests in church law and church history with a career in the Church of England. He read Theology as an undergraduate, was ordained deacon in 1994, and spent over 20 years in parish ministry. His doctoral research (completed in 2009) was on church law; he is currently working on a manuscript of a 16th-century text and will present at the 2024 International Conference on Medieval Canon Law. Between 2013 and 2021, he was editor of the Ecclesiastical Law Journal. He has published two monographs on church law (Legal Flexibility and the Mission of the Church; Canon Law for the newly ordained); he has also written numerous journal articles and chapters on church law, ecclesiology and ecumenism. As an Archdeacon, he has a responsibility for the care of church buildings and their historic contents. He has significant expertise in the operation of the Faculty Jurisdiction as it affects churches and church collections. He has a personal interest in heraldry.
