Grounds for election

In 2015 Dr Edwards published a monograph on the iconography of Lady Jane Grey (revised edition 2024), leading to the relabelling of several portraits in public and private collections. He is listed on the National Portrait Gallery’s Understanding British Portraits Professional Network as an expert on portraiture of Jane Grey Dudley, portraiture of other women in the Tudor period, and Tudor costume. He provided historical context for the University of Leicester’s Department of Archaeology digs at Bradgate House, establishing that the house was not built until the early 1540s, far later than previously thought. He has published articles that successfully re-established Jane Grey’s date of birth as late 1536 or early 1537 rather than in October 1537, and served as principal on-screen expert in the BBC4 documentary series England Forgotten Queen: The Life and Death of Lady Jane Grey in 2017. In 2024 he gave two lectures at Burlington House.
