Grounds for election

Professor Marshall taught Ancient History for many years at the University of New England (NSW) and Macquarie University (Sydney). His main field of specialization is the history of the Roman Republic, in which he is still active. He is the author of a biography of the leading politician Crassus, associate of Pompey and Caesar, and a commentary on Asconius, the commentator on the speeches of Cicero. He is now an active publisher on Republican numismatics. He also served for decades as Secretary of the Australasian Society of Classical Studies, for which he was made a member of the Order of Australia.
