Grounds for election

Historian of English rural communities 16C to 19C with especial reference to Lincolnshire. Dr Watkinson worked as a senior manager for the Open University between 1976 and 2011 before taking early retirement. He completed a PhD in the Centre for English Local History at Leicester University in 2017 and was an Honorary Visiting Fellow in the Centre between 2017 and 2019. An active researcher and writer on the history and development of English rural communities, he has published in both national and local journals. He is the overall winner of the British Association for Local History Research and Publication Award for 2024 and is a member of the Editorial Committee of the Society for Lincolnshire and Archaeology. He is currently engaged, as joint editor, in an edition of two 16C surveys of the Lincolnshire estate of Sir William Pelham and probate material for his tenants for publication in two volumes by the Lincoln Record Society.
