Grounds for election

David has made significant contributions to the archaeology of Egypt, the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean, including books that are widely used for teaching and research, such as The Archaeology of Early Egypt (CUP), and What Makes Civilisation (OUP). His co-authored The Dawn of Everything: A New History of Humanity (Penguin) was shortlisted for the Orwell Prize and has significantly boosted the public and intellectual profile of archaeology in the UK and worldwide, with translations into thirty languages. His research is recognised by awards including The Antiquity Prize, the Henry Myers Lectureship (Royal Anthropological Institute), the Danziger Distinguished Lecture in the Humanities (University of Chicago), the 35th Annual McDonald Lecture in Archaeology (University of Cambridge), as well as the Abertus Magnus Professorship at the University of Cologne, and visiting professorships at the universities of Auckland, Freiburg, and the New York University (Institute of Fine Arts).
