Grounds for election

Dr Buchanan is a landscape archaeologist and GIS specialist focused on the Roman and early medieval landscapes of Britain. His research concentrates on human-environment interactions and how past patterns of practice are reflected and demonstrated in the spatial organization of households, settlements, and cultural landscapes across temporal and spatial boundaries. Most of his current work is in northern England and southern Scotland along the northern frontier of the Roman Empire and in the former early medieval kingdom of Northumbria. He is currently collaborator on The Yeavering Project investigating the internationally important early medieval royal palace site. He has published on a range of topics and projects including two co-authored papers in Antiquity on borders, frontiers and archaeology, significant sections in the recent publications on the Trypillia megasites of Ukraine project, and has a lead-author paper in press on work on the royal palace at Yeavering, Northumberland.
