Colin Welch is one of the world's leading experts on the history and archaeology of the 'V' weapon offensive of 1944-1945 which saw the development and deployment of the world's first autonomous long-range missile systems. Over the past 20 years Colin has developed new and innovative research and excavation methodologies, which have identified previously unknown information relating to the detonation processes and impact physics of the 'V-2' Rocket and the ‘V-1’ Flying Bomb counter-measures including aerial defence and combat narratives. Colin has undertaken the archaeological excavation of many 'V' weapon impact sites and coordinated the subsequent conservation, cataloguing, curation and recording of artefacts, he ensures all findings are placed on the Historic Environment Records. Colin has developed an active community outreach and engagement programme which allows him to share his knowledge and to highlight the exciting potential of this unique areas of archaeological research.
