Jane Evans has 40 years’ experience in commercial archaeology. A nationally recognised Roman pottery specialist, also reporting on finds of various materials/periods from a range of site types across England. Employment: Research Fellow, University of Birmingham; Finds Archaeologist, Worcestershire Archaeology; seconded specialist to MoLA; freelance. Research focus: Roman & Iron Age pottery of the Severn Valley/West Midlands region (incl. Wroxeter & hinterland, Worcestershire sites) & kiln sites (eg lead role in ADS publication of Kay Hartley’s Mancetter-Hartshill kilns archive which won Study Group for Roman Pottery Gillam Prize 2021; contributor to HE kilns guidance). Strategic: contributor to Regional & National Research agendas & Frameworks, joint author ‘A Standard for Pottery Studies in Archaeology’, contributor ‘Big Data on the Roman Table’ research. Active in CIfA (organising conference sessions, presenting papers etc) and SGRP (Hon Secretary & President).
