Grounds for election

Dr Jennings is a leading researcher in the field of wetland archaeology and human settlement in wetland environments, with a particular focus on the later prehistory of the Alpine region, and occupation of the Pfahlbau, or lake-dwellings. His research has extended the understanding of the cultural choices which led to the human occupation in lakeside sites and the development of different social pathways in the Iron Age and the abandonment of a long tradition of construction and occupation of settlement along the edges of the Alpine lakes. Over a career of 20 years he has worked on significant excavation and post-excavation projects in the UK and abroad, including the Newport Medieval Ship and at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Viverone pile-dwelling. Recently he has considered the contemporary perception and valuation of heritage in wetland and peatland environments, resulting in the development of an organisational model for understanding wetland heritage.
