Bruce Janacek is a leading authority on the late Renaissance alchemical tradition who has written extensively on early modern antiquaries and virtuosi such as Kenelm Digby, John Evelyn, and, especially, Elias Ashmole, of whose intellectual career he is currently engaged in a book-length study. His previous works include the book Alchemical Belief: Occultism in the Religious Culture of Early Modern England published by Penn State University Press in 2011. He has recently concluded a term as Executive Director of the Sixteenth Century Society.
