Grounds for election
Dr Gonzalez-Zarandona is a Reader at the University of Newcastle where he teaches heritage processes and management. Antonio is a leading scholar on heritage destruction, with a focus on indigenous communities, landscape, and media. He has published widely in books and internationally recognised journals, most recently co-editing and writing in the Routledge Handbook of Heritage Destruction (2023). His authored book, Murujuga—Rock Art, Heritage and Landscape Iconoclasm (Uni. of Pennsylvania Press, 2020), was nominated for the Joan Gero Book Award (World Archaeological Congress). He has previously worked at The University of Melbourne, Deakin University, and secured a British Academy Visiting Fellowship to work with Forensic Architecture. The exhibition he curated, Building Bridges: From Latin America to Victorian History, at the No Vacancy Gallery in Melbourne was commended and shortlisted for a Victorian Community History Award presented by the Royal Historical Society of Victoria.
