John Mabbitt is a technical director in an international consultancy, responsible for delivery of historic environment projects and professional standards. He has been historic environment technical lead to some of the most significant infrastructure projects proposed in the UK including airports, renewable generation, electricity transmission and new-build nuclear. In this role he leads teams developing a detailed understanding of baseline conditions, impact assessments and archaeological research strategies and mitigation schemes, such as that for Sizewell C which covered archaeological excavation works for multiple sites. For this work, he draws on his background of contracting, where he led numerous urban archaeological excavations and managed delivery of buildings recording for Tyne and Wear Museums Archaeology, as Keeper of Field Archaeology. He is a specialist in historical archaeology, and completed a PhD in the archaeology of the English Revolution.
