Grounds for election
Justin has had a long and distinguished career as a financier, which included setting up Broker Services (later Barclays Stockbrokers) and Seven Investment Management, as well as Proshare and the AIM market. Throughout he has spent much time researching the history and development of financial markets in the UK and across Europe and the impact of financial developments on the wider historical development of nations. He has had a consuming interest in archaeology since his teenage years, and has participated in excavations in Rome, Petra and Tel Megiddo, focused on key trading structures such as the development of Portus (the ancient Roman port), and the success and subsequent decline of Petra as an ancient trading entrepot. Due to his high media profile, his interest in archaeology is well known, especially in relation to ancient Rome. He is currently working on a book about 'economic archaeology', focussing on what the ancient world can teach us today.
