Grounds for election
Dr Ellen Adams is a specialist in Minoan Crete and in disability studies, especially in the context of museum access programmes. She read Classics at Cambridge, where she also received her MPhil and PhD. She has been teaching at King’s College London since 2007. Before joining King’s, she held post-doctoral positions at the British School at Athens (Leverhulme Trust) and Trinity College Dublin (IRCHSS). In 2018 she founded the Museum Access Network for Sensory Impairments (London) (www.mansil.uk). Besides several articles on Minoan Crete and on disabilities subjects, her publications include the volumes Disability Studies and the Classical Body: The Forgotten Other (2021) and Cultural Identity in Minoan Crete: Social Dynamics in the Neopalatial Period (2017). Her work on audio description, touch tours and British Sign Language tours has led to collaborations with the British Museum, Courtauld Gallery, Whitechapel Gallery, and Historic Environment Scotland.
