Dr Claire Van Cleave is an expert on Renaissance art with a specialisation in Italian drawings. After graduating from Georgetown University, she completed her M.A. at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London and a D.Phil at Christ Church, Oxford on Luca Signorelli. Publications include 'Master Drawings of the Renaissance', and, as co-author, 'Italian Master Drawings from the Princeton University Art Museum'. She also curated the drawings galleries for the Luca Signorelli exhibition in Perugia in 2012. Claire has recently researched the drawings collected in the Palazzo Farnese, Rome during the 16th Century, some of which are now held in the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte, Naples. Her book on the history of this collection, and a catalogue of the drawings remaining in Naples, will be published in 2024 by Editori Paparo in both English and Italian.In tandem with her career as an art historian, Claire and her late husband Kent Brainerd, restored Stubton Hall in Lincolnshire.
