Grounds for election

Sophia Adams is a leading expert on later prehistoric metalwork and material culture in Britain and north-west Europe, on which she has undertaken extensive research. Her doctoral thesis was a contextual study of British Iron Age brooches. Prior to joining the British Museum, she worked as a researcher at Bristol University investigating non-ferrous metalworking in later prehistoric Britain and at the Scottish Universities Environment Research Centre developing a radiocarbon-based chronology for Iron Age brooches. Her publications include her book The Social Context of Technology (co-authored with J. Bruck & L. Webley); an experimentally-based study of the unique prehistoric bark shield from Enderby Leicestershire; and numerous contributions on personal objects and identity, metalwork deposition, and brooch chronology in leading journals, edited books and excavation monographs
