Prof. Cooper, former Master of St Bene't's Hall Oxford and long-term Fellow of Brasenose College Oxford, is a leading authority on French Renaissance literature, with a particular interest in the contemporary French passion for classical archaeology and architecture. Witness his recent monograph, "Roman Antiquities in Renaissance France", Farnham, Ashgate, 2013, 435 pp. Among a fleet of supporting articles is for instance his 'Inventing Gallic antiquities in Renaissance France', in "Literary Forgery in Early Modern Europe 1450-1800", ed. Walter Stephens & Earle Havens, Baltimore, John’s Hopkins UP, 2018, pp. 191-214. He summed up his earlier research in 'Antiquarianism', 'Festivals', articles in "The Oxford Companion to Italian Literature", eds. P. Hainsworth & D. Robey, Oxford, OUP, 2002.
