Grounds for election

Tracey Hill is Professor Emeritus in Early Modern Literature and Culture at Bath Spa University, having made distinguished contributions to scholarship of the culture of early modern London. Professor Hill’s research combines the study of literature and drama with detailed knowledge of civic life and material culture, as in two books, Anthony Munday and Civic Culture (2004) and Pageantry and Power: A Cultural History of the Early Modern Lord Mayor’s Shows, 1585-1639 (2010). The second title won the David Bevington Award for Best New Book in Early Modern Studies. Professor Hill is Editor-in-Chief of the Records of Early English Drama (REED) collection on Civic Drama 1558-1642 and an editor of “The Map of Early Modern London” (MoEML) website. Along with these contributions to scholarship of early modern London, Professor Hill promotes public appreciation of London’s antiquities by running popular themed walking tours in the City of London, often in partnership with the Guildhall Library.
