Grounds for election

Matthew Hobson is an experienced field archaeologist and academic with over twenty years’ experience in both academic and commercial archaeology. He specialises in Roman Britain and the North African Provinces, with expertise spanning urbanism, settlement hierarchy, economy, burial practices, and identity. He is the author of four academic books, and more than 20 journal articles and book chapters on subjects ranging through the economy of Roman North Africa, a Romano British villa, Romano-British burial archaeology, and an 18th century delftware kiln. Between 2013 and ’17 he was post-doctoral researcher at the University of Leiden on the ERC project ‘An empire of 2000 cities’, and from 2017 to ’20 he was Training Manager for Libya and Tunisia for the University of Leicester and the British Council, Cultural Protection Fund. He is currently Associate Director (Archaeological Publications) at Wardell Armstrong, Carlisle and an Honorary Visiting Fellow at the University of Leicester.
