Grounds for election

Dr Almahari is a specialist in archaeological conservation and in all periods of the archaeology of Bahrain. He is the Director-General of Archaeology in the Kingdom of Bahrain with responsibility for all archaeological sites and research in the country and was previously the Director of Archaeology and Museums. He has directed numerous archaeological excavation and conservation projects in Bahrain spanning from Early Dilmun gardens, c.2500 BC, through to late historical, 19th century, pearl merchant houses. He has published extensively and in addition to his numerous articles and a book in Arabic, was a co-author of The Islamic Funerary Inscriptions of Bahrain (2015, Brill). Dr Almahari is a Trustee of the International Association for the Study of Arabia, an Honorary Fellow of the Moesgaard Museum in Aarhus, Denmark, and in 2023 was awarded the Arab Archaeologists Award for Academic Excellence by the Arab Archaeologists Union in Cairo.
